Naomi Heiser: Dorothea Dix Lawrence was a opera-trained singer with a folk-music radio show and a traveling act She was an ethnomusicologist with a special interest in music from the Pine Barrens, NJ, but her show and repertoire covered all forms of US folk music, as outlined on the map and in the accompanying songbook for piano and voice. The map is packed with lovely decorative details, charming pictorial elements, and educational information about types of folk music.

Wes Brown: In 1768 Don José Antonio de Alzate y Ramirez made a large manuscript map of New Spain. For centuries, Spain jealously guarded its geographic knowledge about the New World and rarely allowed information to be published. Breaching protocol Alzate sent the manuscript to the French Royal Academy of Sciences hoping they would publish it. They did, resulting in the only 18th century printed map of New Spain that uses Spanish information! The map is full of new detail, like the name "Texas".
